KLM Aruba Open

The First KLM Aruba Golf Open 2005 has been played on the island Aruba. During the event non-professional golf players pitted against one another on Aruba’s two golf courses: the 18-hole course of Tierra del Sol, and the 9-hole course of The Links at Divi Aruba. The tournament is organised in conjunction between KLM, ATP (Advanced Travel Partner), Wegener, the Aruba Tourism Authority, and the two golf clubs. A tournament of this magnitude was a first for the island.

At the KLM Aruba Open players did compete in three handicap groups, all playing individual Stableford. The tournament was dressed with festivities, and players and their partners had ample opportunity to enjoy all Aruba has to offer as a holiday resort.

Play golf, Caribbean-style

Aruba boasts 2 golf courses. The 18-hole golf course of the Tierra del Sol Resort was recently overhauled to rival the world’s most sophisticated courses, complete with the latest satellite and computer technologies. The golf cart is equipped with Par View technology. This enables visitors to monitor the entire golf course via a 10.4" colour screen, read the distance from the cart to the green, and keep track of the score electronically. They can also communicate with the clubhouse and order drinks and snacks from the course. The trade winds on the island always add a touch of adventure to this course.

The Links at Divi Aruba is a challenging 9-hole course with extensive golf training facilities including a driving range, a chipping area and a practice bunker. In addition there are professional instructors available for those wishing to improve their game under professional guidance. The course has a clubhouse and two restaurants with a lounge looking out over the water. The Video Swing Analysis Station is available for players who would like to work on their swing.

Azing Griever became the overall winnar of the tournament
In the three handicap groups the winnars were:
Cat 1 (0-13,9)Marco Kempen
Cat 2 (14-22,9) Jaap Stolk
Cat 3(23-36) Bart Hogendoorn

Next year Aruba will be a happy golf island again in November. Without any doubt the second edition of the KLM Aruba Open will be held on the island.
