Wonderful experience in Perranporth but probably one of the first time experiences to remember. You need definitely two or three rounds to know how to tee off and how far to hit from all blind tees. I will come back for sure.

Perranporth is an old links course designed by James Braid. The course sits on the top of the cliffs overlooking the golden sand of Perranporth Beach, Perran Sands and Penhale. The course has a number of challenging holes where you need to follow the marker posts to keep the ball in play. Always useful if you are new to the course to grab a course planner and study carefully before playing. The greens are typical links green quick and true. Many break to the sea with very subtle movement. There are a selection of raised greens where you do not see the bottom of the flag but pick the right club and you will be fine. When the wind blows (which it often does) the course requires you to be inventive in your shot making. I would strongly recommend Perranporth golf club to golfers of all standards. For those with the lower handicaps the course is better played of the white tees.

Cornwall’s hidden gem and probably one of the South West’s most underrated golf courses. When I walked in the small pro shop I received a very warm welcome from head professional Derek Michell. Always nice to feel welcome as a visitor what unfortunately not happens a lot these days.
The clubhouse and pro shop don’t look fancy or posh but here ate Perranporth it’s all about the course, links course. On 16 of the 18 holes you will find marker posts to help you to find your way to the middle of the fairway behind it.
The course is located at Budnic Hill and from almost all the holes you have spectacular views on the little town across the bay of Perranporth.
The rough was very thick and although Derek told me to stay away from it quite some of the balls I played were attracted to it. I think I lost about 6 of them. The day I played the wind was howling like it can do on the west coast of Cornwall. With this weather I don’t mind to lose a few balls especially to on a course where I have never played before and with so many blind holes.
The fairways and greens were in excellent conditions. The greens were rolling very fast as they were dried out by the strong wind.
You will want to take a moment on almost every holes but especially on the 5th and 14th, amazing, just breathtaking amazing. Yes this is an hidden gem and an incredibly well designed, unique and memorable links course.
